Missing-teen police told of body discovery

POLICE searching for a teenager who vanished last month confirmed a body has been found in a marina close to where he was last seen.

North Yorkshire Police were contacted by a member of staff at Naburn Marina near York at 1.50pm yesterday after a body was found in the water. Officers attended and the body of a man was recovered from the marina shortly after 4pm.

A police spokesman stressed last night that formal identification had not yet taken place, but he confirmed relatives of missing Jordan Sullivan had been contacted.

The grim discovery came exactly a month after Mr Sullivan, 19, was last seen on February 14 at 9.30am near the River Ouse in Naburn. His clothes and wallet were later found nearby.

West Yorkshire Police’s specialist underwater search team was drafted in on Thursday last week for renewed searches near to where Mr Sullivan was last seen.

Previous searches had involved West Yorkshire Police’s helicopter and the force’s underwater unit as well as a specialist search and rescue team from Scarborough.

Relatives of Mr Sullivan had conducted a high profile campaign to appeal for information. His mother, Nicola Jobling, made an emotional plea for her “gorgeous boy” to get in touch during a media call near to the scene where he was last spotted. Friends and a team of volunteers handed out 6,000 leaflets appealing for information to people in city centre pubs and bars on the evening of February 25.
