Missing teenager: Police find body in river

POLICE searching for missing West Yorkshire teenager Ben Manning have recovered a body from the River Calder in Wakefield.

A West Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said: "We can confirm that the body of man has been recovered from the River Calder at Thornes Lane Wharfe in Wakefield at lunchtime today.

Formal identification has not yet taken place. However, the family of 17-year-old Ben Manning, reported missing in Wakefield on Saturday January 22, have been informed.

The coroners officer has been informed. Enquiries are ongoing."

Ben, from Swillington in Leeds, was reported missing by his mother on Saturday January 22 after he failed to return home from a Friday night out in the city.

He was last seen near the JCT 600 garage on Denby Dale Road having walked from Westgate, down Queen Street, along George Street at the side of Gala Bingo across Ings Road and along Denby Dale Road.

His last contact with family and friends was at around 1.30am on Saturday when he sent a text message to his mother.
