Moor friends thank their supporters

THE Friends of Ilkley Moor (FOIM) are to hold a celebration day to thank their supporters.

Founded in 2008, the Friends are well into their second year, having paid for the restoration of a major footpath and extensive work on other minor paths.

Funds have been allocated to control bracken. Educational programmes have been established to encourage responsible use of the moor and heritage trails have been created to help more people appreciate the beauty spot.

FOIM chair Owen Wells said: "All are welcome to come and join the Friends of Ilkley Moor on August 1 to celebrate our achievements over the past two years."

FOIM are also undertaking surveys of habitats and are involved in work to improve the tarns and the paddling pool.

Funds have been raised to pay for the restoration of fire damage and to improve biodiversity.

Regular volunteer work parties have been organised also help clear the scrub spoiling the views from the tarn and invasive species have been cleared from along Keighley Old Road.
