BUS frequency on one of Barnsley’s most important routes linking the town to Sheffield is to be doubled following customer demand.

The move, announced yesterday by Stagecoach Yorkshire, will provide a service every 30 minutes instead of once an hour at most times of the day from Monday to Saturday on the 265 route, which takes in Worsbrough, Birdwell, Hoyland Common, Chapeltown and Ecclesfield on its way to Sheffield.

The service revamp, which will double the number of off-peak journeys and provide some additional peak-time buses, comes as part of Stagecoach Yorkshire’s quarterly review and also includes other changes to services on its Barnsley and Dearne Valley network.

Paul Lynch, Stagecoach Yorkshire managing director, said: “This consultation process has resulted in us increasing the frequency of the 265, a popular route which has seen 30 per cent passenger growth since we last made improvements in 2008.”
