Mother and daughter to run pub bought by village

A MOTHER and daughter team are the first tenants of a Yorkshire country pub bought for £220,000 by villagers.

The George and Dragon in Hudswell, near Richmond in North Yorkshire, has been given a new lease of life after a massive fundraising campaign managed to reach the six-figure target last month.

The Hudswell Community Pub Limited has announced that Jackie Stubbs and her mother, Margaret, will be the first tenants in the late spring.

Miss Stubbs, 36, who grew up in North Yorkshire, has a wide range of experience in the hospitality and catering trade in this country and abroad. Her mother, 57, has worked in the pub trade for 30 years, including a stint at the Durham Ox in Northallerton.

Miss Stubbs said: "We feel honoured to be involved in a project which is so important to the villagers in Hudswell. It has been a dream of ours to run a country pub like the George and Dragon, and it is a real privilege to be involved in the villagers' dream as well."
