Mother battling terminal cancer makes record for children to remember her by

A WOMAN suffering with terminal cancer has taken to the recording studio in a bid to create a lasting memento for her husband and two children.

Sue Whitham, 47, is making a 10-track album which features a series of meaningful cover versions, as well as a self-penned title track called Believe.

She said she hoped it would be a lasting legacy for her children Luke, 16, and Katie, 13, and her husband Mark.

“My children mean the world to me and my fear is not seeing them grow up,” said Mrs Witham.

“That’s why I wanted to do something that makes them proud of me and makes them see you can take something positive from the most difficult situations.”

Mrs Witham, from Wickersley, Rotherham, received treatment for breast cancer in 2005, but was told in May last year that it had returned and spread to her lungs, liver and bones.

She added: “I’d written the words to Believe when I found out I was terminal last year. But they just remained in a notepad.

“When I decided to make the album I knew that it was now or never and I wanted my song on the disc. At first I booked an hour just to do the one song but it wasn’t really long enough because I was struggling with my breathing.

“The Music Factory team were fantastic and allowed me to take rests so I could record the song.”

With the help of the Music Factory Mrs Witham will release her album through the online music store iTunes.

She has set a target of 20,000 sales with the money donated to Sheffield’s Weston Park cancer hospital where she is being treated.”

She now has plans to write 10 tracks to record an all original album in the time she has left and added : “The cancer has motivated me to live life to the full every minute more than I ever have before. I feel its made me a batter, stronger person.”

Mr Witham said: “I don’t know where Sue gets her strength from. We are all so proud of her.”
