Mother of boy who died after an asthma attack speaks of her heartbreak

THE MOTHER of a schoolboy who died after suffering an asthma attack at their Sheffield home has said she misses him "every minute of the day", as a coroner returned a verdict that he died from natural causes.

Following the inquest at Sheffield Coroners Court, Claire Humberstone described her 10-year-old son Dante Kamara as a "cheeky, boisterous boy" and added: "We will never get over losing him and going over this inquest has been heartbreaking. Now we have to try to put it behind us."

The inquest heard evidence from Ms Humberstone as she detailed the final traumatic moments of Dante's life, as he struggled to breathe and asked her to call him an ambulance. A couple of hours earlier, Dante had seen nurse Magdalene King at Shiregreen Medical Centre who diagnosed he was suffering from a chest infection.

He then went out to play in Concord Park but on the way home he started feeling unwell. His asthma medication failed to help and a solo paramedic arrived, who hooked him up to a nebuliser.

However, Dante's condition worsened and he collapsed. An ambulance arrived in Shirehall Crescent 27 minutes after the initial call, but evidence heard at the inquest said an earlier arrival at hospital would not have saved Dante's life.

Coroner Christopher Dorries recorded a verdict of death from natural causes.
