Mother found son dying with cable round neck

Tracey Jackson of Oakwell Close, Drighlington, near Leeds, told an inquest in Bradford that Callum Cooper had behavioural problems and was attention-seeking.

On the day of his death, September 2, 2009, she had arranged to make his tea and popped back upstairs to find him on a bedroom floor.

Deputy Assistant Coroner Tim Ratcliffe asked her: "What did you see?'' Mrs Jackson said: "He just looked dead and I remember screaming for Ian (her husband). Ian came up. I can't honestly remember if I removed the wire. I ran downstairs and rang for an ambulance. They told me what to do to bring Callum round.

"Paramedics came very quickly and took over. They were working 40 minutes but could get no output. I was told that he was brain-damaged to such an extent that his lungs wouldn't work.''

He was taken to hospital and a post mortem revealed he died from asphyxiation.

Mr Ratcliffe recorded misadventure verdict.
