Mother makes history in Miss Great Britain

A MODELLING mother recently crowned Miss York has made history by becoming the first single mother accepted into the grand final of Miss Great Britain since the competition began – 65 years ago.

Charlotte Campbell, 23, who has a two-year-old son called Bobby, will compete against 60 other women in the prestigious competition next month.

It has been an ambition the model mum has held since she was a little girl, when she used to watch the tournament on television at her father's flat in York.

But due to strict rules banning women who have had children from taking part, she had been unable to submit her entry.

Last year former Miss Great Britain Liz Fuller bought control of the tournament and relaxed the entry criteria.

Now Miss Campbell, who lives in Cheshire, says she is on the verge of realising her dream.

"I am just over the moon, it has been so frustrating not being able to take part and I'm so excited to be in the finals.

"I am very proud to be representing York and Yorkshire and am just keeping my fingers crossed I will win.

"Sadly Bobby will not be in the crowd, he is in his terrible twos right now and is a bit too young.

"But I will be up there for him."

The grand final takes place in Western-super-Mare on Saturday, December 4.
