Mother runs for cancer charities

A MOTHER of three is set to take part in the Great Yorkshire Run to raise money for cancer charities which have helped her son.

Joanne Humberstone’s son Oran gained 11 GCSEs last month, despite undergoing gruelling cancer treatment for primary bone cancer.

Oran, 16, has been receiving treatment in the Teenage Cancer Unit at Sheffield’s Weston Park Hospital.

His mother will be running the 10k road race in Sheffield, on Sunday, September 29, for both Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity and Ewing’s Sarcoma Research Trust.

Mrs Humberstone, from Doncaster, said: “Nothing can prepare you for the devastating news that your child has cancer and there is no pain greater than watching you own child suffer.

“But Weston Park Hospital has been amazing and I cannot praise the staff enough.”

Oran added: “My main focus is getting better so that I can continue with my studies and start living my life to the full once again.”

Places are still available in the Great Yorkshire Run.
