Mother set to climb mountain for charity

AN intrepid North Yorkshire woman is preparing to scale the UK’s highest mountain to raise vital funds for the charity that supports her four-year-old son.

Next month Toni Hannon, 36, from Ripon, will tackle Ben Nevis in aid of the Cystic Fibrosis Trust.

Her son Evan has the life-threatening disease and, by supporting the charity, Mrs Hannon hopes a cure will be found.

Mrs Hannon, who is a resource worker at North Yorkshire County Council, said: “My son was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis so I know how hard the disease can be too cope with. This will be my third challenge – after abseiling and skydiving I wanted to do something different.

“I am climbing with two others, Wendy Berry, my best friend, and Tammy Hannon, my sister-in-law. We all share the same desire and dream which is that one day, in the not too distant future, a cure will be found for the disease. I have already raised over £600 but I would love to raise much more.”

Mrs Hannon, who recently got married and asked for donations instead of wedding presents, takes on the challenge on September 11.

The money raised will fund research into treating and curing the disease as well as providing appropriate clinical care for the 9,000 babies, children and young adults with Cystic Fibrosis in the UK.
