Mrs Merigo, 40, died after suffering multiple stab wounds in an assault outside her home in Driffield last Wednesday.

Mrs Bradley said her worst nightmare had come true: “My heart has broken, your happiness and sunshine you brought every time you walked into a room will be passed on to your son and as my daughter, my friend, my shoulder to cry on, I just don’t know if my heart will ever mend.

“Your infectious smile, happiness and caring approach you took to life and with everyone you met, will be sadly missed. However I know your memory will live on in your son and in everyone you have met.”

The youngest of three, Linda worked as a beauty therapist before going to Hull University to realise her dream of being a social worker.

Mrs Bradley added: “Linda just loved children and at her employment worked with foster children, then when she came to have her own son her life truly was complete.

“Being brought up on a farm, Linda loved animals, the outdoors and especially dogs.

“Linda was the most caring and considerate person you ever could have hoped to meet; never saying an ill word about anyone.”

Linda’s estranged husband Alfredo Merigo, 43, of Weelsby Street, Grimsby, who has been charged with murder, is due to appear at Hull Crown Court on November 26.
