Motor with royal link to go on show

A car believed to have a royal connection will be among those on show at the The Yorkshire Post Motor Show and Classic Car Rally.

The Rover 100 P4 1963 was first owned by Sir Russell Wilkinson.

Current owner Peter Rowlands will be travelling from his home in Nottinghamshire to display the car, nicknamed Russell, at the show at Harewood House on Father’s Day.

“I purchased it about four years ago,” he said. “I have the delivery note from Rover themselves in January 1963 and it states that the car was first registered to Sir Russell Wilkinson and I am led to believe that he was the physician to the (late) Queen Mother.

“It’s gone through a number of owners since then.

“It’s been fully restored and had a huge amount of money spent on it.

“It’s had the body off and is now in beautiful condition.”

There is still time for people to enter their vintage vehicles and classic cars into The Yorkshire Post Motor Show and Classic Car Rally, which will also feature family entertainment.
