Motorcyclist in TT horror crash raring to get back in saddle after 33 operations

A MOTORCYCLIST who has undergone 33 operations after a 140mph crash in the Isle of Man TT race has spoken of his desire to get back on his bike.

Robbie Silvester, 46, of Pontefract, suffered a shattered pelvis, damaged spine and broken tibia and fibula in the accident in 2006.

He is recuperating after his latest operation but as the fifth anniversary of the crash approaches he has spoken of his desire to get back on two wheels.

“I was coming through Greeba Castle at 140mph and just lost the front end and smashed straight into a wall,” he said.

“I struggle every day – the accident cost me my marriage and my businesses. But I want to ride the lap that I never completed – it’s something that I’d love to do.”

The severity of Mr Silvester’s injuries has held him back from saddling up ever since but he is determined to remain positive.

He plans to return to the Isle of Man next month to cheer on the TT racers and is hoping he will be able to do a return lap sooner rather than later.

“I’m loving life and keeping fighting. Life is what you make of it.

“They didn’t lie to me when they said that coming to race in the TT would change my life,” he added.
