Motorist, 77, dies of heart attack after teenagers play spinning car prank

Four teenagers have been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter after playing a joke on a pensioner in the snow.

Former print worker Dennis Horbury, 77, went out after the yobs spun his car into the middle of an icy road. The gang twice spun his car so it was sticking out into Spring Street, Barnsley.

Mr Horbury moved it back onto the pavement on the first occasion but when he went out a second time suffered a fatal heart attack.

Police arrested four teenagers on suspicion of manslaughter and bailed them after questioning. Mr Horbury's widow Joan only realised what had happened when a neighbour knocked on the door. She said: "I was in the house and he was dead in the middle of the road. I knew as soon as I saw him."

She said her husband had suffered heart problems for years.

She added: "He could have died at any time. He wouldn't want them (the teenagers) to get bad-named for the rest of their lives for this. He said when he went out 'It's just kids'."

A post-mortem examination revealed Mr Horbury died from natural causes.

Det Con Steve Trigg of South Yorkshire Police said: "This should be a warning to teenagers that such stunts can have unexpected consequences."
