Motorists urged not to ignore flood warning signs as man stranded
Flood warnings remain in place in some areas of North Yorkshire and the warning came after the call out on Saturday morning near Newton on Ouse to the man who became stuck in flood water.
Iain Spittal, North Yorkshire Police’s assistant chief constable said: “A man got into difficulties after travelling through flood water and the emergency services came to his aid.

Hide Ad“The last thing I want to happen after the efforts of all the agencies who have worked tirelessly to keep everyone safe this week, is for someone to lose their life after ignoring a road or bridge closed sign.
“It is simply not worth risking your life or the lives of your rescuers to save a few minutes of journey time.”
In Tadcaster, North Yorkshire County Council said a bridge, closed until safety tests could be carried out, reopened yesterday.
As many as 300 properties have been affected across the region by flooding and the rising waters from rivers including the Swale, Ure and Nidd as well as the Wharfe, Ouse, Derwent, Aire and Dearne.

Hide AdYork was the worst hit part of the region, and 50 of the city’s properties were flooded by the rising levels of the River Ouse.
Water levels are falling but yesterday a number of flood warnings remained in place at locations including the River Ouse at Cawood and for riverside properties in York as more rain hit the regions.
James Alexander, the leader of York Council, last night thanked the emergency services and all those who had worked to limit the impact of the floods.
