Motorsport centre loses noise battle

ORGANISERS of motorsports events at a former air force base have failed in a High Court bid to overturn a Yorkshire council’s crackdown on noise.

The decade-long legal battle erupted after residents complained of an “intolerable level of disturbance” from motorsport vehicles at Elvington Airfield, near York.

Elvington Park Ltd and Elvington Events Ltd failed to overturn two noise abatement notices from York Council. The firms face a six-figure legal bill, as well as having to pay the council’s court costs. The firms could be fined up to £20,000 if the notices are breached.
