Mourners’ message for killer driver
THE family of a six-year-old boy who died in a hit-and-run crash used his funeral service to issue a message to the driver responsible.
Owen Wightman, of Wakefield, was killed on June 18 when he was struck by a car as he played with his best friend next to a road less than half-a-mile from his house.
At Owen’s funeral yesterday his father Neil said the driver “has taken away our precious little boy, which we will never forgive or forget”.

Hide AdHe added: “Today is our longest day, but the clock is ticking because tomorrow we focus all our efforts on justice. Finally I pray that when you are known to us, the public and media, that you are offered the same care, thought and consideration that you gave our little boy.”
A 21-year-old man was arrested and bailed following the incident.
