MP praises company over its creation of skilled jobs

NEW Hull East MP Karl Turner has praised a city-based company for creating skilled jobs.

Mr Turner, who became an MP last month following the retirement from the Commons of Labour veteran John Prescott, said he was impressed by the development of heating firm Warmsure, after learning half of the company's 600 staff are from Hull.

He said: "Having just been elected I am keen to get out there and meet as many businesses and their staff as possible.

"I was extremely impressed by the work Warmsure is doing and in the skills and training it provides, not only for its engineers but for its contact centre staff as well.

"I hope that the funding for such important projects will continue under the new coalition government and I will continue to fight to ensure it does.

"These are important jobs for this region and the staff are doing extremely important work. I applaud their enthusiasm and commitment."

Warmsure is part of Eaga, the UK's largest residential energy efficiency provider, and provides round-the-clock aftercare services for customers on a range of heating programmes.

These include Government-funded schemes which provide heating and insulation grants for vulnerable households.

Warmsure is expanding into new heating and service delivery areas for private customers and is also building its workforce up.

Managing director Chris Jessop said: "We were delighted to welcome Mr Turner to our headquarters and that he took the time to meet so many of our contact centre staff and engineers.

"Our offices are not actually in Mr Turner's constituency so the fact that he made a special effort to meet us is all the more pleasing.

"Earlier in the year our local MP Diana Johnson, also visited and their support means a great deal to us, especially as we continue to grow and create new jobs in this area."

Mr Turner was elected with a majority of 8,597 from the Liberal Democrats in second place, marking a new era for Labour in Hull as Mr Prescott had held the seat for 40 years.

In his first speech as an MP Mr Turner spoke proudly of his roots in the city: "Thank you for putting your trust in me when trust in politicians has not been especially good."
