MP questions release after violent robbery

Eithan Teanby, 40, was serving 10 years and eight months for robbery, GBH and assault when he was let out of HMP North Sea Camp in Boston.

He failed to return and is now wanted for questioning over a robbery in Scunthorpe in a which a man and a woman, both in their 60s, were hurt when a man “lashed out” with a weapon before stealing cash.

The robbery in East Common Lane took place at about 2.50pm on Monday, two hours before Teanby was seen taking a taxi from Scunthorpe to Brigg.

Scunthorpe Labour MP Nic Dakin said: “The first concerns are for the health and well-being of the individuals who have possibly been attacked by this dangerous man and I hope that they and their families who have gone through difficult times are being helped and supported.”

The MP added: “Cases like this always raise serious questions about whether the criminal justice system is making the right risk assessment over the release of people with serious convictions, as has this individual.

“I’ll be taking up that matter with the police locally and the Home Office.”

The Ministry of Justice said only prisoners representing “minimal risk” of escape or harm to the public were eligible for release from prison.
