MP takes a little bit of his constituency along to No 10

One of the finest sights North Yorkshire has to offer is when thousands of crocuses burst into life across Harrogate's famous Stray.

Now the spa town's flowers will be bringing some cheer to number 10 Downing Street after Harrogate and Knaresborough Conservative MP Andrew Jones delivered 2,000 bulbs to the most famous address in Britain.

Mr Jones and Caroline Bayliss, from Harrogate in Bloom, handed over the flowers to highlight the district's past Britain in Bloom success and give a boost to next year's In Bloom campaigns across Harrogate, Knaresborough and Starbeck.

The bulbs will now be planted in the Downing Street garden – which has proved respite to Prime Ministers over the years – in time for flowering in February.

Mr Jones said: "We all enjoy the crocus beds on Harrogate's Stray in the spring and I am pleased that the Prime Minister will have some of the colour and beauty of God's own county in his Westminster garden too.

"I recently planted crocus bulbs for both Harrogate in Bloom and Knaresborough in Bloom and am looking forward to seeing the result of this work and the Downing Street garden in the spring.

"It is great that we can share the beauty of North Yorkshire at the highest possible level."
