MP urged to help save relief road from cuts

A COUNCIL leader has written to his MP urging him to save the £35m Beverley relief road from impending cuts.

Coun Steve Parnaby said it was "almost inevitable" that many capital schemes would be revised or cancelled.

But in a letter to Beverley and Holderness MP Graham Stuart, he said the relief road was "desperately needed" in the town and he'd appreciate anything the MP could do to save the scheme.

As well as diverting thousands of cars away from the town's historic centre, the scheme includes a park-and-ride scheme for 750 cars and should help developments like the massive Flemingate scheme.

Construction was due to start at the end of this year, with the council putting up 4m towards the cost, and the rest coming from the Department for Transport.
