MP ANDREW Jones, who has been donating blood for more than 20 years, has urged his constituents to sign up to the life-saving service.

The Harrogate and Knaresborough MP, who started giving blood at the age of 23, was among scores of people who attended the latest donor session at Wesley Chapel in the spa town.

Mr Jones, 46, said: “Giving blood is something I’ve done for many years now and I would urge everyone who is able to donate to roll up their sleeves on behalf of the National Blood Service.

“The process is very relaxed and, from start to finish, takes roughly 30 minutes.

“The staff are terrific too – friendly, caring and professional. I’ll give blood as long as I’m able to.”

In the UK, just four per cent of the population give blood, with the NHS using on average 7,000 pints every day.
