MPs to hear case for axing tolls on bridge

BUSINESS leaders will press home the case for the scrapping of tolls on the Humber Bridge today as they give evidence to MPs at a special meeting.

The Commons Transport Select Committee will take the unusual step of holding a meeting in Hull as part of an investigation into priorities for Government spending on transport.

Business leaders, councils and transport groups will all give evidence to the committee, which will meet in Hull's Maritime Museum.

Hull and Humber Chamber of Commerce policy executive Richard Kendall is among those who will appear before MPs and will raise the issue of bridge tolls as well as vital schemes which could be delayed following the Spending Review.

He said: "This will be an excellent opportunity for us to highlight how investment in our local transport infrastructure would help businesses to grow."
