MPs make last bidto evade court trials

Three ex-Labour MPs facing trials over expenses claims will go to the Supreme Court next month to argue they are beyond the reach of criminal courts.

David Chaytor, of Todmorden, ex-Scunthorpe MP Elliot Morley and Jim Devine, of Bathgate, West Lothian, argue that they are protected from prosecution by parliamentary privilege.

A hearing yesterday cleared the way for them to ask the Supreme Court to consider “points of general importance”.
