M&S launching bank at Yorkshire store

MARKS and Spencer is to launch its first bank outside of London today when it opens a new branch at its Meadowhall store in Sheffield.

M&S Bank Chief Executive Colin Kersley will take part in a ribbon cutting ceremony. Once open the bank will mirror the opening hours of the store.

The first M&S bank was opened at the flagship Marble Arch store in London last month and M&S plans to open 15 by the end of the summer, including in Pudsey, Leeds.

In all, 50 banks are scheduled to open by the end of 2013 with M&S promoting the idea that shoppers will be able to carry on shopping rather than queue for banking facilities.

Shoppers who want an appointment will be given a pager and alerted as soon as a member of staff is free.

M&S’s first current account will charge fees of up to £240 a year, which will include a range of in-store perks.
