M&S signs up for Bradford’s delayed Westfield Centre

RETAILER Marks & Spencer has signed up to become one of the anchor stores at Bradford’s long-awaited Broadway shopping centre.

The company, which already has a store in the city, will take on a 60,000 square foot store at Westfield’s proposed £275m scheme.

Earlier this year developer Westfield announced that the scheme had been revised and scaled back.

A revised planning application is expected to be submitted shortly.

Councillor David Green, executive member for regeneration, said: “The confirmation of Marks & Spencer as the first anchor tenant for the Westfield scheme is great news.

“To have one of the country’s biggest retailers commit to the Broadway site should act as a clear sign to other potential tenants that Bradford is open for business.”

Work could start next year.
