Murder-bid charge over cut-throat attack

A man was charged with attempted murder after a young mother whose wedding had been called off was attacked in her home and left fighting for her life with her throat cut.

Lisa Whyte, 32, remained in hospital yesterday after she was found seriously injured in her home in Slamannan, Stirlingshire, on Saturday morning.

A man aged 37 was arrested in Newcastle in connection with the incident yesterday and Central Scotland Police yesterday said he had been charged. He is expected to appear at Falkirk Sheriff Court today.

Ms White was in a serious condition in hospital.

Police found her after they were called to the house at about 10am on Saturday.

Ms Whyte was due to marry her partner and father of her

two daughters Steven McKee at Falkirk Register Office on Friday, but the ceremony had been cancelled.

Neighbours said they had heard the couple rowing throughout the week. One said Ms Whyte had moved out of the home they shared in the quiet Stirlingshire village.

The couple, who lived together at Culloch Road, had featured in the Falkirk Herald newspaper following the birth of their second daughter.

Ms Whyte was said to be an accountancy assistant and Mr McKee, who has a son from a previous marriage, was working as a glazier manager.

Ms Whyte moved out of the house she shared with Mr McKee and the children last week after an argument, one neighbour said.

But she said she had continued to hear them rowing throughout the week and the wedding was cancelled after another argument.

The couple's two daughters

are understood to be being looked after by their grandparents.

Ms Whyte's father, Alec, asked for privacy. He said: "We are all very depressed right now. All we can do is wait and see what happens."
