Murder charge after punch kills man, 40

AN 18-YEAR-OLD man from Hull has been charged with the murder of a man who died after a single punch to the head.

Wayne Amess, 40, died after being punched in the face and falling to the pavement during a fight outside a pub in Hull at about 2.30am on New Year's Day.

Mr Amess, of Woodgate Road in the city, is believed to have been an innocent bystander when the disturbance happened outside The George pub on the corner of Walton Street and Spring Bank West.

He was taken to Hull Royal Infirmary in a critical condition with a serious head injury, but died just before 8pm that day.

Mr Amess, who leaves his partner of more than 20 years, Christine Campbell, has been described by his family as a "loving father".

A woman aged 38 from Hull who was also arrested in connection with the incident has been released on police bail pending further inquiries.
