Murder probe after man found stabbed on Leeds footbridge

A MURDER investigation has been launched in Leeds after was found with stab wounds on a footbridge.

The body was discovered on Monday morning on the footbridge over the Stanningley Bypass at Pudsey.

Police named him this afternoon as Sean Rogers, 20, the father of a three year-old daughter.

A 19-year-old Leeds man has been arrested on suspicion of murder, and was being questioned by detectives today.

Mr Rogers' family said in a statement: "Known as 'Sean Oge' to his

family, he was a wonderful, dad, son, grandson and so much more to his large and loving family.

"He was quiet, inoffensive and a popular young man. He adored his daughter who is a real daddy's girl.

"Known as 'Swell' to his friends, he was the life and soul of any party and always made everyone laugh. He had lots of friends and loved the attention of the girls.

"The manner of his death was tragic and has left a void in the lives of all who knew him. He will be greatly missed."

Police closed both carriageways of the bypass for 16 hours on Monday while forensic scientists carried out a detailed examination of the bridge area.

Detectives are seeking witnesses - particularly anyone who may have seen any suspicious activity in the early hours of Monday morning around the bypass and near the Morrisons car park in Bramley.

Det Supt Steve Payne of the West Yorkshire Police Homicide and Major Enquiry Team, who is leading the investigation said:"I would like to speak with anyone who may have been travelling along the Stanningley Bypass after midnight or to anyone who witnessed any suspicious activity near to it overnight."
