DETECTIVES launched a murder inquiry yesterday after a man was found stabbed in a suburban garden in Barnsley.

Officers were called to an address in Colley Crescent, in the Kendray area of the town, early yesterday morning, following what was described as a disturbance.

The 29-year-old victim, whom police said was local, was treated by paramedics who were called to the scene at about 2am.

Despite their efforts he died soon afterwards. The street was sealed off for much of yesterday as forensic officers conducted a detailed examination.

A South Yorkshire Police spokesman said a post-mortem examination was due to take place last night and appealed for witnesses to come forward.

Detectives arrested a 36-year-old man on suspicion of murder yesterday afternoon. He was being held in custody last night and was set to be questioned further today.
