Murdered student’s ex-girlfriend in charity run
James Kouzaris, 24, and James Cooper, 25, were murdered in Newtown, a deprived part of the city of Sarasota, while on holiday in Florida in April.
Friends and family of the pair have now set up a charity called “Always a Chance” in their memory and, on Sunday October 9, Liz Clare – Mr Kouzaris’s former girlfriend – will take part in the 10k run with a group of friends to raise money for the cause.

Hide AdMiss Clare, from Baston in Peterborough, said: “I only started running two months ago when I signed up to do the Bupa Great Yorkshire Run and I thought it would be harder than it actually is. The reason why I’m running has motivated me a great deal so the challenge has seemed easier when I think about the boys and Always a Chance.
“I will be training every day before the event and hope to complete the course in an hour and 15 minutes.”
Always A Chance helps raise awareness in schools of the dangers of becoming involved in violent crime.
