Museum to offer night-time showcase of life in 1920s

A MUSEUM which allows visitors to step back in time to the 1920s will be holding a rare night-time opening tonight.

Mr Straw’s House in Worksop is taking part in the nationwide Museums at Night scheme, which will see hundreds of museums, galleries and libraries open their doors for special evening events from today until Sunday.

Beccy Speight, the National Trust’s director for the Midlands, said: “This is a rare opportunity for visitors to see a National Trust place in a different light.”

As well as seeing Mr Straw’s House after hours, visitors will be able to view objects that are not usually on display.

The unremarkable semi-detached house, with original interior decorations from 1923, was the home of the Straw family.

For 60 years the family threw little away and chose to live without modern comforts – meaning that the museum offers an authentic view of 1920s life.

Booking for tonight’s opening is essential, on 01909 482380.
