Museum seeks former Olympians

MUSEUM workers who hope to put together an exhibition on Doncaster’s Olympians ahead of next year’s London games have appealed for athletes past and present to come forward.

Doncaster Council’s museum service wants to hear from Olympic athletes born in Doncaster and people from town who have attended the Olympics in the past.

A council spokesman said: “So far the team has contacted taekwondo Olympic bronze medallist Sarah Stevenson, hockey player Barry Middleton, and John Hall, the paralympic basketball player.

“Cyclist Roy Cromack who competed at the Mexico Olympics has already agreed to lend items to the exhibition.

“The museum would really like to get in touch with other Olympians born in Doncaster, including flyweight boxer Mark Epton, cyclist John Tanner, and Paralympian archer Anita Chapman.

“They would also like to hear from the families of sprinter Brain Shenton and track athlete Norman Frederic Hallows.”

Anyone who can help should contact the Museum Service on 01302 734293 or email [email protected]. The exhibition will be held at Cusworth Hall next year.
