Music teacher admits body-in-case killing of Marie Stewart

A MUSIC teacher from West Yorkshire will admit killing his partner and putting her body in a suitcase, court officials have confirmed.

Lawyers representing Andrew Lindo, 28, told a judge he is prepared to admit the manslaughter of mother-of-two Marie Stewart, 30, whose body was found in the garage of their home in Holmfirth at the weekend.

Lindo was charged with murder after the grim discovery at the house in Perseverance Place on Sunday.

But prosecutors told a preliminary hearing at Bradford Crown Court today that a plea to manslaughter was not acceptable and a trial date was fixed for August 30.

The court heard that the issue in the case was one of provocation.

Lindo has yet to enter formal pleas.

Judge James Stewart QC ruled that certain details which emerged in court today could be reported, with the agreement of the prosecution and defence.

Officers found the body after they were contacted by Miss Stewart’s relatives who were concerned because they had not seen her since Christmas.

A post-mortem examination carried out on Monday showed her death was caused by multiple stab wounds and blunt force trauma.

Miss Stewart’s family have said they are “devastated” by the death of “a devoted and loving mother”.

Lindo was remanded in custody.
