Mystery remains over bodies in bedsit

Detectives investigating the deaths of two people whose bodies were found in a Bradford flat are not looking for anyone else.

Police yesterday confirmed the second body found inside a bedsit in Hallfield Road, Manningham, on Monday was female.

A post mortem examination of the man's body revealed he died as a result of hanging.

Police believe the man may have killed the woman before taking his own life.

However, it was still not clear yesterday how long the bodies had been in the bedsit before being found by officers.

The cause of the woman's death has yet to be ascertained.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said: "Post mortem examinations of the bodies found at the flat in Hallfield Road have been conducted.

"The man discovered in the property died as a result of hanging. It has been established that the second body found inside the flat is female. However, the cause of death is still under investigation by the pathologist.

"A formal identification of the female has yet to take place and family of the man are still to be informed.

"Following our enquiries, we are not looking for anyone else in connection with these deaths."

Officers discovered the body of the man in the bedsit on Monday after they were called to the property at 8.53pm to reports of a sudden death.

The second body was found after a search of the multi-occupancy converted house which is about a mile from Bradford city centre.

Manningham councillor Shabir Hussain, yesterday echoed the shock of people living in the area at the grim find.

He said: "Finding one body is very upsetting but finding two is very disturbing and it is very sad. It is distressing."

The bodies are thought to have been in an upper floor flat in the terrace property, where up to 12 people are thought to live.

Neighbours said there were many East Europeans living in the immediate area.
