SHE became famous overnight. Now television baker Nadiya Jamir Hussain is getting ready to meet her supporters.
The mother, from Leeds, was watched by millions of viewers as she won the Great British Bake Off programme on BBC1.
Now she is preparing for the Cake and Bake Show at Event City in Manchester from November 12 to 15.
Visitors to the show will have the chance to see Mrs Hussain, along with her fellow finalists Tamal Ray and Ian Cumming as well as previous champion John Whaite.
Also on stage will be Coronation Street actress Wendi Peters, a finalist on Celebrity MasterChef, as well as Celebrity MasterChef presenter Gregg Wallace and Lisa Faulkner, also a winner of Celebrity MasterChef.
Mrs Hussain, who baked to victory in the nail-biting finale against Tamal Ray and Ian Cumming, said: “Before I did Bake Off I did wonder if, after 10 years of being at home, I was work ready.”
Married to Abdal, the couple have three children Musa, nine, eight-year-old Dawud and Maryam, five.
After her victory, Mrs Hussain said that she definitely wanted to continue baking and cooking. “I’d love to do telly and write a book and whatever else comes along, nothing’s sealed yet. None of this feels like work, it feels like fun,” she said.
She is not the only one who has gained popularity. She said her husband now had his fair share of fans, too.
“I believe he’s what you’d call a dreamboat, that’s what it says in the papers,” she said.
