National park puts stress on fitness

THE North York Moors is aiming to attract new visitors with the message that the national park is no longer best enjoyed through a coach window over a six-pack of beer.

Although the moors have been a traditional destination for works outings and charabancs, bosses are now aiming to attract keep-fit enthusiasts by promoting the health activities the park now offers.

The Coast Alive Project is being funded by the European Union with the goal of improving public health and well-being.

Sally Smith, the Park’s Events and Exhibitions Coordinator, added: “The National Park Authority already offers a good range of fitness activities as part of its events programme. “Being part of the Coast Alive Project means we can increase the number and range of activities on offer but also work with certain groups and individuals who may not have the resources to take part in these sorts of activities or who may lack the confidence needed.”
