National recognition as foot specialist takes on top role

A lifetime treating foot problems has led to national recognition for a South Yorkshire specialist after he was appointed to the top post in his field.

Podiatrist Tony Wilkinson has been made Dean of the Faculty of Podiatric Surgery at the London-based College of Podiatrists, a position which is held for three years at a time.

He will continue with his work for the NHS in Doncaster alongside his duties for the college, which will include promoting the work of colleagues and leading development in the field.

He added: "To be recognised in this way by my fellow professionals is not only a great honour for me but also a tremendous accolade for the podiatric surgery service in Doncaster. It is renowned within the profession for being a centre of excellence."

Mr Wilkinson acts as Doncaster's podiatric consultant and provides a wide range of foot surgery for people in the borough and also takes cases which are referred from further afield.

He was born in Lancashire and graduated from the Northern College of Podiatry in 1990, initially taking a post in Cumbria before moving to Derbyshire in 1995.
