New appeal for information on assault death

Police yesterday revealed they are investigating the death of a 49-year-old man who was the victim of an attack more than two months ago.

Anthony Sharman, who was assaulted in the Intake area by two men on Wednesday, September 5 at 10pm, died on Monday, October 29.

A 31-year-old man and a 26-year-old man were both bailed after being arrested shortly after the attack on suspicion of assault.

A South Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “A post-mortem examination was held following Mr Sharman’s death but the results of a further forensic test are required before the cause of death can be confirmed.

“Officers investigating are appealing for anyone with information to call them or contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
