New athletics stadium to open in 2014
It has been confirmed an agreement between the University of York, the athletics club and York Council has paved the way for the creation of an athletics facility at Heslington West Sports Centre, due to be completed by the end of 2014.
It was originally proposed the club should be based at the £10m York Sport Village, near Grimston Bar, but yesterday the council said “considerable cost savings” had been achieved by basing it at Heslington and making use of exisiting facilities.
