PETER Burrows, the new Bishop of Doncaster, will officiate at his first service of confirmation as a bishop this Sunday, February 19.
The bishop will lead the service at Christ Church in Pitsmoor, Sheffield, at 6.30pm.
Confirming people as full members of the Church of England is one of the things that only a bishop can do.
Mr Burrows said yesterday: “I am really looking forward to sharing in what is a significant moment in the life of the confirmation candidates, as they take the next step in their Christian journey and commitment.
“I have prepared many candidates for confirmation over the years and organised the services, but confirming them as bishop will be a unique privilege.
“I hope and pray that the service will be a memorable occasion for the candidates as it will be for me at the start of my ministry as bishop.”
Mr Burrows was ordained as bishop by the Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu, at a service at York Minster on Thursday, February 2.
It was announced in October last year that he would be leaving his role as Archdeacon of Leeds to take up the position of bishop.
