New bridleway to boost road safety in Dales

A NEW bridleway has been created to link two villages in the Yorkshire Dales to ensure horseriders, walkers and cyclists do not have to use a busy main road.

Work has just finished on the bridleway linking Clapham and Austwick that avoids the A65 Skipton to Kendal road. Up until now, anyone travelling in either direction along the B6480 had to go on to the busy main route for about 440 yards before rejoining the quieter, minor road.

The bridleway – a partnership project between the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority, the Dales Integrated Transport Alliance and North Yorkshire County Council – runs alongside the A65 and means walkers, horseriders and cyclists are now able to avoid traffic.
