New bus user group sets out to improve travel

Commuters, residents and visitors are being urged to join a new bus user group to help improve travel in York.

York Council and local bus operators are looking for people interested in joining the new Bus User Group (BUSUG) which is seeking members who either have an interest in bus travel or use services across the city, to help to shape future investment in the city’s bus network.

Coun Dave Merrett, the council’s cabinet member for transport, planning and sustainability, said: “This is an excellent opportunity for the council and bus operators to engage the public on important bus issues direct.

“We will continue to consult on major schemes and initiatives but this is an additional focus for us to listen and take on board what every day passengers are experiencing.”

Meetings will be held at different times throughout the year and the group will also be asked to provide feedback online, on the phone or by completing questionnaires.

The aim is to establish a mixed group of people who use the buses in York, have insights into the services and have ideas for improvements.

The group would also be asked to provide specific feedback at times on marketing campaigns or possible changes to the network.

Anyone who is interested in finding out more information or would like to join the group can do so by completing the application form at www.itravelyork.info/news.
