New business is right on the button for sewing enthusiast

WHEN Joanne Marsh left a high-powered job at Leeds Building Society after 26 years the 44-year-old knew exactly what she wanted to do.

A lifelong dream had been to turn her hobby drooling over beautiful designer wool, pattern books, buttons and knitting accessories into a new online shop selling a selection of luxury wools and handmade buttons.

Mrs Marsh said: “My late mother Pauline inculcated in me a love of cooking, baking, knitting and sewing – all those girly kind of things and I thought I would like to try to make a business out of it so that is what I have done.

“After leaving the society I converted one of our rooms at our home in Cawood into a suitable room for business and launched my business on May 11 – www.woolandbuttons.co.uk.

Business has been steadily trickling in though now I have got the product range sorted out I need to concentrate my efforts on the marketing side of things.

“I am very ambitious so we will see where it takes us. My husband Phil, who has a senior job at mobile phone company O2 has already jokingly asked me if he can be ‘senior packer’.

“Buttons and wool are things that I have been passionate about since I was a little girl, they are big hobbies of mine, so as you can imagine I have been enjoying setting up my business very much indeed.”
