New centre to help jobseekers

JOBSEEKERS in a deprived South Yorkshire community are to be offered help writing CVs and searching for employment at a dedicated centre paid for by the local council.

Mexborough's "opportunity centre" will open tomorrow and staff have encouraged people in the town to visit during the day to meet them and find out about services on offer. People searching for a job will be able to make use of computers at the new centre, which is based at the Mexborough Community Partnership Building in Dolcliffe Road.

Assistance will be available to look for local vacancies and training courses and advice workshops will help with writing business plans and letters to possible employers or customers.

A spokesman for Success Doncaster, Doncaster Council's business development arm, said: "Whether people are thinking of starting a new job, changing career or training, the centre may be able to help.

"If people need help building their confidence, staff can support them in enrolling on a life-coaching workshop. There are also courses on managing finances and guidance on leading a healthy lifestyle."
