New challenge for warship commander

A ROYAL Naval officer from Ilkley has taken command of the 5,000 tonne Royal Navy warship HMS Argyll.

Commander Tim Neild, 40, a former Ilkley Grammar School pupil, said: “Argyll is the pinnacle of my career to date. She has a fantastic reputation and a superb ship’s company – I am really looking forward to taking her to sea later this month and preparing for operations.”

He now lives in Hampshire with his wife Claire, who is also from Ilkley, and their two young children. Plymouth-based HMS Argyll has recently returned from a deployment to the Middle East and is now preparing for a period of high readiness during the summer months when it will be available to react to any unforeseen worldwide event.
