New coach to help women's football

A FOOTBALL coach who has worked in Texas, Seattle and Boston has taken over as the new girls and women's officer at Sheffield United.

Jenny Fulcher spent four months coaching children in America during her studies at Leeds Metropolitan University, and joins the Blades from Leeds United where she was a full-time health project worker. Her position at Leeds saw her work with a number of top-flight players, some of who were England internationals.

Through her new role with Sheffield United’s community programme, The United Initiative, Ms Fulcher says she aims to create more footballing opportunities for females in Sheffield.

She said: “I will be doing this by running girls-only holiday camps and some after-school clubs within the city.

“I hope to make some important links with local clubs and organisations in order to find out exactly what opportunities girls need to increase participation.”

Ms Fulcher, who began coaching when she took charge of a girls’ team in her home town of Blyth, Northumberland, will be using her experience from America, where women’s football is one of the fastest growing sports, to help players in Sheffield.
