New gallery opens to showcase arts

A NEW gallery has opened in Huddersfield to give local people and those who have experienced mental health problems a chance to showcase their artwork.

The Packhorse gallery in the Packhorse shopping centre is run by Support 2 Recovery, a local charity working with people with mental health problems, and has been funded by Kirklees Council and South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust.

Artwork and crafts on display have been produced by people in touch with Support 2 Recovery, as well as by members of the public, and are available to buy.

Sian Smith, project lead at the gallery, said: “We have set up the gallery to not only offer local artists the opportunity to display their work but also to promote positive messages about mental health.”
