New games area in swing at park

A NEW games area for young people has opened at a park in Bradford. It will be launched at an event at Bowling Park tomorrow at 3pm.

Based on the former tennis court, the games area includes new fitness equipment, monkey bars, pull-up bars, a table tennis table, boulder rocks, logs and a typhoon circular swing feature.

Coun Paul Flowers, Bradford Council's executive member for culture, planning and housing, said: "It is great to see an area designed for children and young people to play in a safe environment. This project really shows what can be achieved by working with the local community."

Staff from Bradford Council's leisure services have worked with the Friends of Bowling Park to secure funding for the construction of the new area.

The 100,000 scheme was equally funded by Community Spaces and the Landfill Communities Fund of Waste Recycling Group WRG administered by the environmental body, Waste Recycling Environmental Limited.

The fund enables landfill operators to divert a proportion of their annual landfill tax liability to environmental projects. The Community Spaces grants are managed by Groundwork UK as an award partner to the Big Lottery Fund.
